We’re off again. Not even 12 months since the last holiday we couldn’t afford and here we go again,

It all centres around the wedding of the century. Emily Grace Jewell and Christopher Page are tying the knot on 13 July, at Tottington Manor, Henfield, near Brighton.

…so we didn’t really have a choice. We’re making the most of it with some travels before and after the big day.

Stay tuned.

  • That’s a wrap
Well, we’re home! Touched down at 6:35am in Brisbane after a relatively uneventful flight, which is how you want them. We were an hour late leaving Gatwick, which only meant the layover between flights was 2 hours, instead of 3. Then we were an hour late getting away from Dubai… Read more: That’s a wrap
  • All but over
It’s Tuesday evening, we’re in the Emirates lounge at Gatwick Airport and we’re just whiling away the time (alright, eating and drinking) until we board at 9pm tonight- about 2 ½ hours away. Whatever we didn’t do, or couldn’t do, or forgot to do will have to wait until the… Read more: All but over
  • Sunday, Monday
Not enough happening for two posts, so you’ll have to make do with one. I got an early start to Sunday, waking up at 3am and not being able to get back to sleep. I decided that, since I was up, I might as well watch Sunshine Coast Lightning play… Read more: Sunday, Monday
  • The many historical inaccuracies of the movie Braveheart*
This post comes to you courtesy of Milly, who arrived back in Australia this morning, 21st July. Milly here. After ditching the fam in Brighton (or being ditched? Open to interpretation [editor’s note: we didn’t ditch her, we left her safely tied up in a sack in the boot of… Read more: The many historical inaccuracies of the movie Braveheart*
  • Back to Brighton
All our adventures seem to wind up back in Brighton, for obvious reasons. Apart from catching up with Emily and Chris again, we had to drop the car back this time. We left the accommodation in Chadlington fairly early and went into Chipping Norton for fuel and breakfast. Fuel wasn’t… Read more: Back to Brighton
  • More Cotswalding adventures
There’s a lot of little places in the Cotswolds, and they have very entertaining names. Today we visited Bourton-on-the-Water, Upper Slaughter, Lower Slaughter and Broadway, as well as making our way through a few other little villages on the way. Bourton-on-the-Water is probably one of the most picturesque little villages… Read more: More Cotswalding adventures
  • Stow-on-the-Wold and other amusing places
To get things started on the right note, we got ourselves up and out early (don’t ask, just believe it was early) and headed off to Carterton for the regular Thursday market, which apparently gets into swing from 7:30am. We got there at 9am, but managed to find parking okay,… Read more: Stow-on-the-Wold and other amusing places
  • The Repair Shop
We’re heading for the Cotswolds today, but first we need to do some running repairs. It’s off to the Weald & Downland Living Museum at to take in the sights of medieval and Industrial Revolution era England (950 to early 19th century). This is an open air museum, a bit… Read more: The Repair Shop
  • Sutton Valence and Leeds Castle
We started the day early, well 9am, that’s early enough, and went for a walk. We were looking for Sutton Valence Castle, which was supposedly nearby. Turns out it was not 150 metres, so even my fairly ordinary way finding skills weren’t challenged too much. It’s only ruins now, but… Read more: Sutton Valence and Leeds Castle
  • I need a Pooh
Winnie, that is. Winnie the Pooh. Our first port of call today was the 100-acre wood, near Hartfield in Kent. We picked up a rental car in Brighton, waved goodbye to Amelia (abandoned her really – she’s off to Edinburgh) and headed off in search of Pooh and his friends.… Read more: I need a Pooh
  • Post wedding blues
Lame title, although things did seem a bit dull after the excitement of the lead up and the big day. Latish breakfast (9am) and we’d all checked out by 11am and wandered off in separate directions. Dresses, bouquets and remaining cupcakes were all dragged back to Emily’s flat (where someone… Read more: Post wedding blues
  • Presenting Mr and Mrs Page
This post is a bit late, as protocol demands that Emily and Chris post photos on social media before others do, and fair enough. Just pretend it was written on Saturday. It was the day before Christmas, and all round the house nothing stirred, not even a mouse. Hang on,… Read more: Presenting Mr and Mrs Page
  • Nailed it
Needed to be up early and packed. Unfortunately we move on today and have to part company with a great new friend, our bat shit crazy downstairs neighbour, Tasha. Tasha is obviously on day release from a mental asylum, bless her paranoid, whiney little soul. I hope she writes, we… Read more: Nailed it
  • Horsing around
Off to London Town we go. Our two goals were to see the King’s Guard on Horseguards Parade, and to go to Covent Garden to browse the markets. So off we head with our Off Peak Southern Rail ticket to Victoria Station in London. That ‘off peak’ thing became important… Read more: Horsing around
  • Hassocks manoeuvres
Welcome to Day whatever we’re on. I can’t remember what day of the week it is, much less what day of the trip it is. It turns out that it’s Wednesday, so that means it’s In-laws Day. We’ve met the in-laws before, but there was no wedding planned back then,… Read more: Hassocks manoeuvres
  • Closed? What do you mean, it’s closed?
Surprise, surprise. Another morning, another English breakfast. They’re not ridiculously big though, and they do hold me until the end of the day. And there’s still room in my clothes, so far. Okay, quick wander (read bus) down to the Duck Shop, which was finally open. Got some ducks, which… Read more: Closed? What do you mean, it’s closed?
  • Monday, Monday
Amelia arrived early on Monday morning, fresh from Shanghai. We found a cafe just up the road and had a decent breakfast. This country does know how to do a decent breakfast. Then off down town for a wander around the Lanes, and the Laines. If you’re in the market… Read more: Monday, Monday
  • Sunday roast
We kicked off Sunday with a walk down to a cafe at the marina. The walk was further than we remembered, and the light drizzle became heavier as we went, and the wind picked up. Welcome to summer in England. Why didn’t we catch a bus? Because it’s not far… Read more: Sunday roast
  • And finally
Took a while to get out of Dubai. We were all boarded and ready to go, then… First up some passengers failed to show, so their stuff had to be offloaded. Then someone got sick and they decided to offload him, plus his family. Their luggage was spread over 5… Read more: And finally
  • Half way there…
It’s a long way. Glad I don’t do this everyday. We’re currently stopped over at Dubai, for 5 hours. We’ve got the use of the Emirates lounge, but there’s a limit to how much you can eat and drink, even when it’s all paid for. I’ll let you know when… Read more: Half way there…
