It’s Tuesday evening, we’re in the Emirates lounge at Gatwick Airport and we’re just whiling away the time (alright, eating and drinking) until we board at 9pm tonight- about 2 ½ hours away. Whatever we didn’t do, or couldn’t do, or forgot to do will have to wait until the next trip – assuming that there is one.

To finish off the trip we caught up with Emily and Chris for breakfast and they dragged all our luggage back to their flat. We had to be out of the flat by 10am but didn’t have to leave for Gatwick until 4pm, so dragging the luggage around Brighton was hardly an option. Fortunately we have connections.

To be fair, there are a lot of fat seagulls in this town

Emily and Chris went off for a two-day mini-honeymoon in the Cotswolds at 10am, leaving us in charge of the flat. We ate all their food and drank their beer. Then wandered down the street to see what was on exhibit at the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.

Someone’s getting sick of walking…

Turns out that it is 50 years since ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, and the competition was held in Brighton. Bugger me. Also turns out that Olivia Newton John was the UK entrant that year – I’ve no idea how that worked. I guess she was born in England, but had moved to Australia when she was 5.

ABBA was in Brighton for a week, the exhibition has been here for months

At the appointed hour our Uber (well Jacquie, Chris’ stepmother) collected us and off we went to Gatwick. And that is pretty much where the story finishes. I might do a tidy up post when we get home, but Shaun’s Trail is just about at its end. I need to upload some more photos too, that ‘feature’ of the app is still not fully co-operating.

Not our transport to the airport, just a random car I photographed in the street

Thanks for tuning in, Steve and Michelle.
