Bye, bye Bordeaux and hello Toulouse. We got into Toulouse around 1pm, after 2 and a bit hours on the train. This train seemed positively pedestrian, travelling at around 100 km/hr but other than that the trip was fine.
The whole way between Bordeaux and Toulouse seemed to be covered in grape vines. No wonder there is so much wine in the supermarkets. They don’t have separate bottle shops here, you just pick it up at the supermarket. Something Australia could learn from. And cheap. I’ve picked up a couple of bottles of red wine for less than €3. And it’s nice wine.
Lunch at a cafe at the train station, then off to find the apartment. We are on the sixth floor, but there is a lift. There also seems to be a little casino downstairs (petit casino)? Not sure what that’s about.
And that’s it, shortest post of the trip. It was near 4pm by the time we wound our way to the apartment, so we gave ourselves the rest of the day off, apart from grabbing a few groceries. And the supermarkets are quite an outing in their own right. Everything is expensive at the cafes, €8 ($13) or more for a glass of wine or a beer, but ridiculously cheap at the supermarkets.

We also booked our train tickets to Brest on Sunday. What a palaver that turned out to be. To get to Brest we have to go all the way back to Paris, change trains and head to Nantes, then change again and get a train to Brest. All of this is going to take 12 hours. I upgraded us to First Class, figuring that if we are going to spend that long on a train, we may as well be comfortable.
