The Singapore to Frankfurt leg was fairly uneventful, which is how you want your flights.
We got into Frankfurt about 6pm on Monday evening, to connect with a Heathrow flight due to leave at 7pm. Except that it didn’t leave at 7pm, it left at 8pm, but was late, so it was 8:30. Fortunately the Frankfurt-Heathrow leg is only a bit over an hour and, with time zone changes, we were in Heathrow and through Immigration Control about 9:30pm.
Getting a taxi took longer than the last leg of the flight and we finally got to our accommodation around midnight. Slept well, really well.
Tuesday was our first day of real holiday, so we caught the train into London and went for a bit of a wander. Much more of a wander than it should have been, starting with getting on the wrong train.
Not to let that be an obstacle to having a good look around, we got off at Notting Hill and checked out Portabello Road, famous for its markets and a Hugh Grant movie. No markets and no Hugh Grant when we were there. Back on the (right) train.

We decided we’d go and experience the London Eye but got off about three stops past it (having a good run), so wound our way back along the Thames, via the Monument, London Bridge, Borough Markets, Globe Theatre, St Paul’s Cathedral and some other stuff.

We didn’t go into all those things, mostly around and past them, and up and down the streets connecting them. I never tire of looking around London.

The Eye was interesting, you certainly get a good view of the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and other landmarks. Costs a bomb, but that doesn’t stop it being popular. Fortunately, the crowds have been pretty good, not all that busy in London following the end of the summer holidays.
Would I recommend it? No, go and see everything from ground level first. This is about our fifth trip to London, so we’ve seen all those other things from the ground. It’s just a revolving lookout.

Finished the day with dinner at the pub. Then slept about ten hours.
Portsmouth tomorrow. Stay tuned.
