Cruising the canals of Wales and England

Michelle organised a 3-day hire of a canal boat as a 30th wedding anniversary surprise. These narrow boats are fairly easy to handle (fortunately), however as they are 60 feet long you need to be constantly at vigil and planning ahead.

To add to the interest Michelle booked the boat for the busiest weekend of the year (August Bank Holiday) on the busiest canal in the country!

We only went from Trevor (Pontcysyllte Aqueduct) to Ellesmere. This is about 11 miles each way. You only make about 2 miles an hour, at best. Add downtime for locks, cleaning weed off the prop, lunch etc. and walking is a whole lot quicker. Narrow boating is more fun though.
